It was while living in the island
paradise of Mauritius, watching the sea's blue waters lap upon the
bleached, pristine shore, that renowned gem master, James Stradley,
conceived of this masterwork - a chandelier of precious gemstones capturing
the hue and sparkling refraction of those tropical waters.
Over years gemstones were gathered
from exotic parts of the world such as Brazil, Madagascar and Mozambique.
Viewing thousands of stones, rejecting most, he skillfully assembled gems
that were exquisite in clarity, balance of color and brilliance.
The result of his vision is a
one-of-a-kind triumph of artistry, featuring more than 550 faceted ice
blue topaz briolettes. Each briolette glitters with more than 150
painstakingly cut facets. More than twenty tiers of briolettes culminate
at the piéce de rèsistance, a 185 carat flawless blue topaz drop
with over 250 facets. Complemented by the finest sterling silver chains
and fittings, Shimmering Ice bears eight candles and eleven additional
auxillary lights that bring the masterpiece to life with color and light.
The faintest movement, the slightest breeze sets off a light show that is
truly extraordinary.
